Having a few visual effects for the Mac's webcam is all well and good, but if you want more, you should look at ManyCam. Besides adding effects to a webcam's feed, the application can also simulate a webcam, using local media. Instead of a live feed of yourself, you can broadcast any video file, still image or other elements, while chatting with your friends. Also, ManyCam provides more effects than other webcam-related applications.

Anyone can master the application's controls, including novice users. The available options are neatly organized on separate tabs, on a compact user interface. Using the first tab you can apply various effects on your live feed and the second tab allows you to choose a source for your broadcast. Any application that integrates with a webcam will broadcast the source selected in ManyCam, instead of a live webcam feed.

Besides using your Mac's webcam, you can also stream videos and still images from local folders. All you have to do is import the files and play them. Also, the application can be set to play a specific video on a loop. What's more, ManyCam is capable of live-streaming your desktop. Regardless of the selected broadcast source, you can adjust the feed's brightness, contrast and colors, on the same tab.

ManyCam's effects are neatly categorized in a tree structure, which makes them easy to find. You can find all sorts of effects and overlay them on your feed, from simple objects or distortion effects to backgrounds or face accessories. Furthermore, you can browse for new effects on the Internet and import them.

Pros

The application is capable of simulating a real webcam, using media of your choice. It comes with a large selection of effects and you can download more from the Internet. The user interface is clean and simple and its controls are easy to understand.

Cons

ManyCam's Mac OS X version doesn't come with certain features which can be found in the Windows version. The possibility of broadcasting any media as a live webcam feeds, with countless special effects is exactly what you can expect from ManyCam.
